Meeting with Representatives of Organizations working on improvement of Roma and Egyptians position

At the premises of PR Center in Podgorica, on 26.10.2016. was organized a meeting with representatives of organizations that are working on improvement of situation of Roma and Egyptians. Young Roma, as a partner organization on the project ,,Joint initiative to empower Roma civil society on the Western Balkans and Turkey" initiated this meeting in order to exchanged information and experiences with colleagues from other organizations, in relation to activities undertaken to improve the situation of Roma and Egyptians.

At this meeting participated representatives of the organizations Civic Alliance, Roma Circle, Association of Egyptians, Romsko vrijeme, Centre for Roma Initiatives, Koračajte sa nama, Young Roma, and in the domain of their work gave constructive comments in relation to the situation of Roma and Egyptians.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the current activities and achieved results of each organization, as well as to identify obstacles that organizations have encountered in their work. Plan is to develop the strategy for overcoming these obstacles in the future. Representatives of the organization after the presentation of results of their work presented also the key obstacles that stand in the way of successful integration of Roma in education, housing, employment. Highlighted were also problems related to the lack of participation of Roma and Egyptians in committees, working bodies at local and national level as well as their inadequate representation in institutions and the media sector.

In addition to the exchange of information on the results achieved, representatives of NGO Young Roma explained application procedures for small grants that will be awarded to (pro) Roma civil society organizations which are aimed at strengthening the position of the organization in influencing policies targeting Roma.

Mentioned meeting, as well as the allocation of small grants are implemented within the project ,, Joint initiative to empower Roma civil society in the Western Balkans and Turkey,"which is supported by the European Commission. The project is coordinated by the organization Roma Active Albania and ERGO Network fro, Brussels, while the NGO Young Roma participates as partner organizations from Montenegro.
