Meeting with representatives of the Municipality of Bijelo Polje

On Monday, 19th July 2021 in the premises of the Municipality of Bijelo Polje, a meeting was organized with representatives of the Municipality of Bijelo Polje and the ROMACTED team in order to exchange information and plans for the future in the second phase of this Programme.

The meeting was attended by: Petar Smolovic, Mayor, Ernad Suljevic, Deputy Mayor, Haris Malagic, Secretary, Milos Kljajevic, Head of the Department for Human and Minority Rights in the Secretariat for Local Self-Government, Dzenada Rizvanovic, employed in the Roma Office, within the Department for human and minority rights at the Secretariat for Local Government in the Municipality, Milica Kovacevic, Project Officer, Rafet Mulic, facilitator for the municipality of Bijelo Polje and Nerma Softc, representative of the NGO Young Roma.

The meeting discussed the second phase of the ROMACTED program, plans and activities that will be implemented in the future in this Programme. The participants of the meeting also exchanged information on the situation and problems that the Roma community is facing in this municipality. The biggest problem of the Roma community in Bijelo Polje remains the problem of housing. Also, through the ROMACTED programme, Municipalities will be able to apply for grant schemes through which they will receive certain financial resources for the implementation of activities aimed at improving the status of this marginalized group.

ROMACTED - Promoting good governance and Roma empowerment at the local level is designed to build the political will and sustainable policy of local government participation, increase local governance, build capacity and encourage the empowerment of local Roma communities to contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring, plans and projects concerning them. The ROMACTED programme is funded by the Council of Europe and the European Union, while the NGO Young Roma is a partner organization in implementation. The joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe, ROMACTED II phase (2021 - 2024), will be implemented in seven municipalities: Bar, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Herceg Novi, Niksic, Tivat and Ulcinj.
