Campaign ''Unknown heroes''

Our organisation conducted a national campaign for the EU Award for Roma integration in the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019, titled ''Unknown Heroes''. This year, the award is dedicated to women from Roma community who contributed to improvement of their community with their work and engagement. Alternatively, the Award is dedicated to Roma women engaged in civil society. For the purpose of promotion and greater outreach, we organised 5 meetings during which we presented the main idea and goal of the award and disseminated promotional campaign material.

Meetings were held in Nikšić, Bijelo Polje, Podgorica, Herceg Novi and Petrovac. During this ten-day campaign, interested parties had the possibility to learn all about application and nomination procedure, supporting documentation, deadlines and eligibility criteria.

Our organisation nominated young lady from community in Bijelo Polje, Elma Šahman, who has been actively volunteering in her community for 5 years now, thereby contributing to improvement of situation in her community, through supporting and assisting children in their education. By her example, Elma motivates other members of her community to recognize the importance of regular and quality education. The importance of Elma's actions was recognized through years long cooperation established with civil society and Roma community in Municipality Bijelo polje.

The ''Unknown heroes'' award is financed by the European Union and implemented by Roma Active Albania.
