Eight families returned to Kosovo [RTCG]

Eight internally displaced families voluntarily returned today to the settlement Kolonija in the Djakovica municipality in Kosovo. As announced by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, these families, with a total of 36 members, which since had resided in the camp Konik 2 in Podgorica since 1999, will return to their country of origin, where there are houses waiting for them.

The return of these families is funded by the European Union through the Delegation of European Union to Montenegro through the "Assistance Program for Integration and the Return of RAE and other I / RL living in Konik - Phase II". In cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare - Directorate for Refugees Government of Montenegro and the United Nations Agency for Refugees (UNHCR), this project is implemented by the Danish Refugee Council in partnership with the NGO HELP.

UNHCR used allocated funds of the European Union to build houses for returnees on the land granted by the Municipality of Djakovica, and provided beneficiaries with the food, furniture, wood and tools for self-employment, while the Danish Refugee Council awarded basic return packages and provided transport of these persons and their belongings.

"This activity is a continuation of the close cooperation of governmental, international and non-governmental organizations that are actively working on achieving durable solutions for displaced persons. During October, we organised the return of six displaced  families or 36 persons to Naklo village in the municipality of Pec and three families, or 19 people were returned to the village of Srbobran, Istok municipality in Kosovo. Next week, on November 17, we expect to organise the return of another 5 families to Djakovica and one family to Kosovo Polje in Kosovo", conludes the statement from the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare.
