NGOs Young Roma and Human Rights Action welcomed the action of the Municipality of Herceg Novi and the German NGO HELP, which will jointly provide housing solutions for six Roma families currently living in makeshift facilities in Šištet in Igalo.
We remind that the Municipality has provided three plots with utility connections, whereat the Help will finance the construction of prefabricated houses for three of the six families.
"We hope that they will soon find a suitable location for the remaining three vulnerable families. These families are currently living on the land that is owned by the Institute dr Simo Milosevic, which filed a lawsuit for their eviction in June last year", according to a joint statement of the HRA and the Young Roma.
Accoriding to these two CSOs, joint action of local government, with the support of HELP and Young Roma prevented 23 people, including eleven children, find themselves on the street.
"After successfully executed action, eight vulnerable families from Zverinjak settlement in Niksic were provided homes in the begining of this year, another local government has continued the practice of respect for the rights to adequate housing guaranteed by the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, through which Montenegro obliged to provide alternative accommodation for persons, who may become homeless, due to forced eviction."
They announced that they will continue to advocate that this good practice is systematically implemented at the state level, and in all local governments.
