NGO "Young Roma" today marked ten years of existence. Samir Jaha from Young Roma pointed out that UNDP had played a key role in improving their capacity and certainly advancing key issues related to the Roma community.

"As you know, the Roma community had big problem with the personal documentation. We have had great support from the UNDP, and we still do, and right now we have launched a joint project that aims to improve access to social protection and employment of Roma. Our intention is to continue to seriously deal with Roma issues and we expect the support of all our current and new partners", said Jaha.

Tamara Vujovic, Vice President of the Municipality, said that the problems of the Roma population are mainly of social nature. "These are issues in the areas of housing and education, lack of personal documentation, prejudice of the local population, forgetting and ignoring tradition. These problems regarding the Roma community in the HN are not so pronounced, and we can proudly say that 300 inhabitants of the Roma population permanently resides in HN. According to some data,  around 600 Roma from Herceg Novi is temporarily working abroad", concluded Vujovic. 

Representative of Help, Klaus Mock, said that the NGO Young Roma gave greatest contribution to improving the position of Roma inclusion through field work at the local level, directly assisting members of the Roma community. "In addition to solving the basic problems of the Roma minority such as personal documentation and social welfare, NGO YR went one step further by launching and initiating projects which encourage members of the Roma community to work independently to improve their position", said Mock.

Alyn Roberts, Senior Policy Adviser to the OSCE Mission in Montenegro, said that the OSCE Mission provides support to the Roma in obtaining documents from their countries of origin, as well as of facilitating access to public services.
