Dear Mr. Katic,

On the occasion of 28 of October, the Liberation Day of Herceg Novi, I wish to refer my sincere congratulations. This holiday, a symbol of resistance to fascism, is an important date in Montenegrin history.

The city you manage is the seat of the NGO Young Roma, from where we started our activities and expanded the scope of our work at the level of the whole of Montenegro, providing active support to Roma community.

I use this opportunity to thank you for everything done for the Roma community in yours and our city. This year, although full of challenges and obstacles, is important because through joint cooperation with the support of members of the working group, Council of Europe experts, we managed to create a Local Action Plan for Social Inclusion of Roma and Egyptians in the Municipality of Herceg Novi in ​​the period 2020-2023 which was adopted on July 2 at the session of the Municipal Assembly. This, the first step towards creating a better living environment for members of the RE population, is the basis for future action.

I welcome the efforts of the Municipality to resolve the housing issue and I hope that together we will ensure a better life for the Roma, taking into account the areas that need urgent solution, which are provided by the Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma and Egyptians 2016-2020. Housing, education, social status and family protection, health care are the basis for building inclusive policies. Preserving Roma culture and identity is an unavoidable step on the path to progress, and we must not forget the most valuable resource, our youngest, who can only secure employment, progress and a prosperous tomorrow through education.

In that sense, we are convinced of the continued support of the Municipality of Herceg Novi.
