Office for Roma education support opened in Elementary School Radomir Mitrovic

NGO Young Roma on 16 October visited the Elementary School Radomir Mitrovic in Berane. Through an education support programme, school supplies for Roma pupils were delivered to this institution with the help of the Roma Education Fund. On that occasion, the office for associates in social inclusion of Roma students in education, which is equipped with the support of the ROMACTED programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the NGO Young Roma, officially started working.

The executive director of the NGO Young Roma, Samir Jaha, said that this organization will continue to help Roma pupils of the Radomir Mitrovic school in the coming period.

- Twelve Roma pupils from Berane were enrolled in high school after five years. Dedicated teachers, mentors, and the management of this school are credited for that. I am convinced that we will have good cooperation and notable results this year as well - Jaha emphasized.

The school principal, Radomir Jocic, thanked the Council of Europe and the NGO Young Roma.

- I consider today's meeting a continuation of good cooperation. I express my gratitude to you and to the Council of Europe. Our school is also grateful for the support program that your organization implements in cooperation with the Roma Education Fund, which provides Roma pupils with mentoring. This year, five mentors were selected. We believe their work will bring results, as it did in last year when 12 Roma pupils were enrolled in high school. We are also convinced that these 29 sets of school supplies will be of good use to them and that their office will serve as a nice gathering place - said Jocic.

Teacher and mentor Nikola Raicevic is satisfied with the programme that is being implemented in the elementary school Radomir Mitrovic for the second time.

- The cooperation we have with the NGO Young Roma has always been at a good level on all issues concerning Roma children. As a mentor, I am very grateful because this support programme means a lot to our children - said Raicevic.

Petrit Amurlahu, associate in the social inclusion of Roma students in education, did not hide his satisfaction with his visit to the school.

- Thank you for coming and enabling the improvement of our work. Thanks to the school principal for providing us with a room. Now we will have conversations with children and parents in a pleasant environment. I hope that the pupils will work harder and that we will have an even better performance this year as well - he told.

The NGO Young Roma also equipped the offices in the Elementary School Mileva Lajovic Lalatovic in Niksic and Blazo Jokov Orlandic in Bar. All funds for office equipment are provided through the ROMACTED programme funded by the European Union and implemented by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the NGO Young Roma.
