National conference ''Improved education of Roma and Egyptian children through cooperation''

National conference ''Improved education of Roma and Egyptian children through cooperation'' was held on 29th November 2019. Conference was attended by representatives of civil society, members of Coalition, representatives of primary schools, mentors and mediators in education, representatives of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, Ministry of Education, Ombudsman's Office as well as representatives of other relevant national institutions and international organisations.
Conference had a working character, and it was used as an opportunity for actors which are directly or indirectly involved in the process of education of Roma and Egyptian children to discuss current challenges, and to create recommendations for improvement of education. Among others, these recommendations include:
- greater involvement and improved cooperation of all institutions involved in the process of education of Roma and Egyptian children, through creation of digital system and procedures related to the Protocol on prevention of early school drop out, which would render the process of monitoring and reacting more swift;
- intensified and specialised cooperation with parents and families of children (through workshops on important of continuous education, counciling support);
- providing mentorship support in earlier grades of primary school;
- strenghtening competencies of pupils through various educational activities, through involved in extra-curricular and sport activities and through communication with young Roma which represent positive examples from the community;
- diminishing scope of Roma and Egyptian children per one mediator in education (current number is 70)
Recommendations will be delivered to all interested actors and relevant institutions, and will be used as a valuable tool in further advocacy efforts for improvement of quality of education of Roma and Egyptian children.
National conference was organised in the framework of regional project ''Joint Initiative to Empower Roma Civil Society in the Western Balkans and Turkey'' which is coordinated by Roma Active Albania and implemented nationally by NGO Young Roma. Project is funded by European Union and co-funded by Ministry of Public Administration.
