Press conference and networking meeting of mentors

On October 29th 2019, NGO Young Roma organized a conference with the topic "Education of Roma high school students". The conference was held in the premises of the EU Info Centre.

The speakers at this conference were:

  • Samir Jaha – Executive Director of the Young Roma Organization
  • Adi Sinani – Education, Employment and Labor Policy Officer for the Western Balkans and Turkey, Roma Education Fund
  • Marash Dukaj – General Director of the Directorate for Education of Members of Minority Peoples and Other National Communities, Ministry of Education
  • Leon Gjokaj – General Director of the Directorate for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Minority Peoples and Other Minority National Communities, Ministry of Human and Minority Rights
  • Katarina Jočić – Project Coordinator in the NGO Young Roma

The conference presented the results of the implementation of the first year of the project "Increasing access and participation of Roma students in secondary education and transition to labor market", as well as announced activities for the second year of the project. The results of the project were presented by Mr. Jaha, the Executive Director of the Young Roma organization.

He presented the data about the number of students who were included in the mentoring program that is being implemented within this project. There were 108 students in the previous year, of which 102 successfully completed the class. Also, 20 students finished high school, of which 11 already got employed.

The paid summer internship was the second component of the project. 31 students had the opportunity to do an internship.

The conference also presented the activities which are planned for the second year of the project implementation, as well as signed contracts with the selected mentors for students for the school year 2019/2020.

Also, during the conference, the attendees were able to view exhibited photos of the students who had internships with various employers during the previous year.

The conference was attended by: the representatives of the Employment Agency of Montenegro, the Center for Vocational Education, the Bureau for Education Services, the Ministry of Education, international organizations, civil sector, representatives of primary schools and mentors from secondary schools in Montenegro.

The project "Increasing access and participation of Roma students in secondary education and transition to labor market" is funded by the European Union and implemented through the Roma Education Fund (REF). The NGO Young Roma is a national partner organization for Montenegro.
