Montenegrin-Roma and Roma-Montenegrin dictionary is the basis for the standardization of the Romani language, and it is of great importance for it to become an integral part of the culture and identity of the Roma community, it was announced today at the presentation of dictionary.
The Ministry for Human and Minority Rights and the Institute for Textbooks and Teaching Tools presented today the first Montenegrin-Roma and Roma-Montenegrin dictionary. Dictionary, which is the work of the author Ljatif Demir, Nevsije Durmiš and Fatime Demir, is a product of efforts to scientifically and systematically present and describe the lexical richness of the Romani language, announced the Ministry.
It was pointed out that respect for minority rights and the rights of marginalized groups in society, is a topic that attracts the general attention of all.
"Roma are unusual people, whose homeland is the whole world, and who are, again, very attached to their culture and way of life. We, in Montenegro, first settled in the coastal region. For five centuries now, members of these communities have been living in the Montenegrin territory as an integral part of ethnic and demographic structure of the Montenegrin society. Most of the Roma, 63.7% of permanent residents in Montenegro, has been present for several generations in this country", it was announced at the presentation of dictionary.
For Roma, as stated, culture is reflected in language, music, religion and myths.
"Romani language is the only "book" the Roma brought from the native India. Their language is inventory material and spiritual culture they once belonged, and which also contains elements of the culture of other peoples with whom they came into contact during their migration. Most Roma speak some version of the Romany language", the release said.
It was emphasized that the Romani language was an essential element of national and cultural identity of the Roma and for these reasons the denial of Romani language, in any form, is the negation and denial of identity of the Roma, their human rights and freedoms that are guaranteed by all international documents.
"This dictionary, which is the foundation for further development of the Romani language, undoubtedly contributes to the development of the Roma community, because it will be the basis for education and self-education of people who want to engage in linguistic idiom environment", it was said at the presentation of dictionary.
