Three victims of human trafficking were identified in Montenegro during the first three months of this year, while the total number of casualties since 2004 is 38, it was announced from the Red Cross of Montenegro. Tomorrow, Red Cross will mark the European Day Against Human Trafficking and distribute flyers and cards containing key messages regarding precautions.
"The action plan includes distribution of promotional materials in almost all the country's municipalities. Volunteers of the local Red Cross branches will pass them to citizens on the streets and in public transport, together with cards containing key messages regarding precautions for the purpose of preventing human trafficking", said the statement from the organization.
And this year's European Day Against Human Trafficking, as it was announced, is celebrated under the slogan "Ring the bell for freedom." The aim of this action is to draw attention to the risks posed by the trafficking in human beings, and to warn that victim and the trafficker could be anyone.
"According to the Office for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in Montenegro, since the beginning of this year to 1 April there were three victims of human trafficking, and the total number of victims since 2004 is 38."
Although Montenegro, statistically speaking and in comparison with other countries, is one of the countries without significant human trafficking problem, there are disadvantaged target groups in our country which are more prone to this problem - such as minors, the Roma population, migrants.
"Therefore, the recognition of human trafficking as a major problem today is of great importance for our society", the statement said.
The Red Cross will, as stated, organize tomorrow a seminar on prevention of human trafficking for the volunteers, as well as all interested parties.
