Group of NGOs requests: Authorities to report on Roma [Dan]

The failure of institutions to report on the status of the domicile Roma population can lead to failures in the assessment of the need to ensure better living conditions for all people at disadvantaged position, said a group of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) dealing with the integration of Roma and Egyptians.

A group of NGOs dealing with the integration of Roma and Egyptians, reviewed the Report on the implementation of Strategy on improving the situation of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro last year, at the meeting organized by the NGO Young Roma as part of the project "Decade Focal Point Montenegro".

- The general attitude of civil society representatives who attended the meeting is that the 2014 Report report almost entirely focused on the internally displaced persons (I/RL) and Roma and Egyptians who live in Podgorica in Konik camps, so that the impression is that authorities have neglected the need to report on the domicile Roma population, the statement said.

This situation, as they say, is particularly worrying if we take into account Montenegro's Progress Report  for membership in the European Union for 2014 and other relevant reports, which concluded that Roma in Montenegro are generally faced with discrimination, regardless of their legal status or the city of living.

- In addition, little effort was made to improve the position of domicile Roma living in the north, while there are almost no investments in the southern parts of Montenegro - belive CSOs.
