On the occasion of the International Day of Roma, in the hall Dodest KIC "Budo Tomovic" NGO Juventas and City Theatre Podgorica organized a performance "The Giving Tree" for children of Roma population from camps Konik 1 and 2.
The show was attended by participants of Juventas' workshops and programs that have already attended a psycho-social workshops aimed at strengthening social skills and teamwork, but also the development of responsibility towards themselves and others.
Silverstein's "The Giving Tree", on which is based the idea of the piece, is an important companion of many generations on the road to adulthood. "Montenegrin actors Julija Milačić and Mišo Obradović enthusiastically presented the period starting from childhood, through the teenage years, and all way to the old age, relying only on their acting ability, invoking audience to laugh and grieve at times; without extensive theatrical effects they fascinated the audience. The tree is a symbol of a shelter, friendship, understanding, sacrifice and unconditional love, which always return", stated Juventas.
This activity is part of the second phase of the project "Assistance Programme for Integration and the return of RE and other I/DPs living in Konik". The project encourages open opportunities and eliminate barriers to those who are most affected by poverty, to participate in the social life of Montenegro, including cultural, sports, educational and entertaining events. The project partners strive to offer children and youth RE population more options to equally enjoy the aforementioned amenities like other children and young people, explained associates from Juventas.
The main lead of the project is to HELP, while the project partners are Juventas, Roma Education Fund, the Legal Center, Red Cross of Montenegro and the Danish Refugee Council. The project is funded mainly by the European Union Delegation to Montenegro, as well as the Government of Montenegro, the Roma Education Fund, UNHCR, the Red Cross of Montenegro and the Danish Refugee Council.
