International Roma Day celebrated in Camp Konik 1 [Vijesti]

Red Cross of Montenegro in cooperation with the Security Centre Podgorica, Security Centre Cetinje and NGO Help, marked International Roma Day at Camp Konik 1 today, whereat the youngsters and RE children (Roma, Egyptians) preformed artistic program.

Minister of Labour and Social Welfare in the Government of Montenegro, Ms Zorica Kovacevic, welcomed the participants and members of the RE population and pointed out that the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare "has done a lot of work on the social inclusion of Roma to facilitate employment, health care, obtaining documents", and will continue to work on it in the future.

The Secretary General of the Red Cross of Montenegro, Jelena Dubak, pointed out that "the Red Cross of Montenegro  works daily with Roma in education, because it is their only way out from the cycle of poverty".

Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Montenegro, Dawn Edie Baird that the responsibility for the inclusion of Roma in society lies with the authorities, but it is very important that the Roma themselves are active participants of this process.

Head of UNHCR Office in Montenegro, Mustafa Server Cayian, explained that all the partners of this organization are joining efforts to  provide every member of the RE population with personal documents and resolved status in Montenegro, while the Chief of Security Centre Podgorica, Mr. Vojislav Dragovic reminded  the participants of the First Congress of Roma held n London in 1971, after which the world commemorates this date.

After the opening remarks, RE youngsters and children performed recitations, performance on musical instruments, break dance performance, Roma folklore and hip-hop song.

After the performance, all present danced to Roma songs, while interested had the opportunity to be photographed with the Cavalry Unit of the Police.
