On December 13 2019, the representatives of the NGO Young Roma visited the high school, Madrasah "Mehmed Fatih" in Podgorica.
Besides the members of the NGO Young Roma, the meeting was attended by students from the Roma population from this school (four in total) as well as a professor who serves as a mentor for these students.
During the meeting, we talked about the functioning of this school, which has a boarding school in which students are accommodated.
Characteristical for this school is that the teachers themselves know their students very well, their socio-economic status and the problems they face because there is an educational service in the institution and there is always someone on duty and monitors their behavior.
The students are placed together with the others and there is no separation, resulting in a very good socialization.
Also, they pointed out that the school is well connected with other universities outside Montenegro and that students have support if they want to continue their studies abroad.
The students have expressed their satisfaction with the organization of the school, and one of them emphasized that the support of teachers means a lot to him, and when he is not motivated enough to learn, the presence of the teachers and the encouragement gives him the will to master the material and continue, otherwise he would give up.
This activity was implemented within the project "Increasing access and participation of Roma students in secondary education and transition to labor market", funded by the European Union, and implemented through the Roma Education Fund.
