On the 16 October, representatives of NGO Young Roma visited secondary schools in municipality of Berane in which Roma students are enrolled and where programme of mentoring support is implemented.

On that occasion, we organized meetings with the school management where we talked about the situation with attending and organizing classes in this school year, when there was a change in the way classes were realized due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic.

Those are schools:

  1. Secondary vocational school in Berane
  2. High school "Vukadin Vukadinović" in Berane

We also discussed topics related to high school scholarships, selection of mentors, regularity of students in classes, monitoring classes online, the consequences of COVID-19 virus on students from Roma population, integration of Roma students in the school system, as well as the importance of support by mentors.

This school year in Berane, for the first time, there are students from the Roma population in secondary education, thanks to the previous work of mentors who provided support to these students in primary school.

This activity was held in the framework of the project "Increasing access and participation of Roma students in secondary education and transition to the labour market", funded by the European Union, and implemented through the Roma Education Fund.
