The project Improving primary education – first step towards quality secondary education is implemented by NGO Young Roma through the Roma Education Fund.
The estimated duration of the project is from September 2019 to July 2021.
The main goal of the project is to reduce school dropouts, improve school success and support students in enrollment in high school.
The project will cover 130 final grade students (8th and 9th grade) in primary schools in Montenegro.
In order to achieve the goals of the project, teachers / mentors will be hired in the schools and they will provide assistance to students in learning and mastering school materials, but also be a contact person for the student in the school to whom he / she can first turn in case of need. The teacher-mentor will cooperate with other subject teachers on the one hand, and with mediators in the school who have access to the community from which the student comes, on the other hand.
The mentors will assist the ninth grade students in enrolling in high school, motivate them and support them during the transition from primary to secondary education.
The NGO Young Roma will create a database with information about schools and project beneficiaries through which the school success of students will be monitored.
This project also aims to influence systemic changes in the education of children from the RE population, such as: activating multidisciplinary teams to prevent early school leaving in schools with the largest number of children from this population, increasing support for students and teaching staff by mediators in education who are engaged by the Ministry of Education, as well as advocating for an increase in the number of engaged mediators.
