Info session in Elementary School “Savo Pejanović“ in Podgorica

On December 19, 2019, representatives of the Young Roma NGO held an info session at the Savo Pejanovic Elementary School. The aim of the info session was to inform and motivate the eighth and ninth grade students of the mentioned school to continue their education and enroll in high school.

In addition to the eighth and ninth grade students, there were also two mentors who were hired through our organization to monitor and assist students in the school. After the introductory presentation of the members of the Young Roma organization and the students themselves, the high school students spoke about their school experience and the general importance of education.

Ferban Salja, a fourth-grade student at Vaso Aligrudic High School in Podgorica and Melisa Berisha, a sophomore at Ivan Uskokovic High School of Mechanical Engineering, presented themselves as a positive example of successful students from the Roma and Egyptian communities to younger students, and shared their experiences regarding for education - the elementary school they attended, the decision to enroll in high school, and their current state.

In their story, the students emphasized the importance of continuing their education beyond primary school and provided motivation for younger students to pursue the same.

This activity is part of the project "Improving primary education - first step towards quality secondary education", supported by the Roma Education Fund (REF).
