3200 kg of aid was delivered to 88 families in the municipality of Ulcinj

On July 30, 2020, the NGO Young Roma organized action of division aid packages intended for the Roma community in the municipality of Ulcinj. For this action, 100 food packages of 26 kilograms each were provided, as well as 100 hygiene packages of 6 kilograms per package. In this way, the NGO Young Roma helped 88 Roma families from this Montenegrin municipality. The value of this assistance is 2,300 Euros without VAT, and the funds are provided through the European Commission and the Council of Europe, through the ROMACTED programme.

 

The action of awarding these packages was realized in response to the current epidemiological situation in Montenegro, with the aim of economic assistance and mitigation of the consequences of COVID-19, Roma community which is largely affected by high unemployment and poor tourist season, especially bearing in mind that part of the members of the RE community in this municipality do seasonal work. The action was organized by the facilitators of the ROMACTED program for the municipality of Ulcinj - Almir Beganaj and Marko Junkovic.

This is the second aid action organized by the NGO Young Roma for this municipality, so in March this year, 5,390 kilograms of aid were distributed in eight settlements where the RE community lives: Bijela gora, Pinjes, Totose, Kolomza, Kodre, Stoj, Darza and MUP barracks. In the first action, 110 food packages of 17 kg per package, 110 hygiene packages of 7 kg per package, and 110 bags of flour of 25 kg were distributed to this Municipality. In this, the first, action, which was organized from March 27 to April 17, close to 300 Roma families in Tivat, Bar, Ulcinj, and Niksic received 400 aid packages under the regional ROMACTED program over 13,000 euros

Programme ROMACTED - Promoting good governance and Roma empowerment at the local level is created to build the political will and sustainable policy of local government participation, increase local governance, build capacity and encourage the empowerment of local Roma communities to contribute to the design, implementation and monitoring plans and projects concerning them. The ROMACTED program is funded by the Council of Europe and the European Union, while the NGO Young Roma is a partner organization in implementation. The Programme is implemented in seven countries of the Western Balkans and Turkey, in a total of 64 municipalities.
