Young activists sent powerful messages through Forum theatre

Representatives of NGO ''Young Roma'' attended the performance of forum theatre organised by two young Roma NGOs – Centre for Affirmation of Roma population and Roma european alternative, on 11th December 2019. This interactive play, titled ''We are here!'' was performed on the Faculty of Philosophy in Niksic. Ten activists/high school students, willing to demonstrate their acting skills, in this way presented several real-life situations in Roma community. By this, participants pointed out the significance of education of RE children and youth, on existing prejudices and demonstrated how individuals from institutions often treat Roma community, as well as pointed out some negative phenomena such as arranged, unwilling early marriages.

Besides representatives of NGO Young Roma, forum theatre was attended by 50 representatives of RE and majority population, with the intention to point out the needs and challenges of youth and to achieve better understanding and eliminating of prejudices and stereotypes. At the end of the play, guests were addressed by several persons from RE community, who are succesful in their activism and work – Zoja Tarlamišaj, Miljaim Delija, Samir Jaha, David Šalja i Nardi Ahmetović.

To our knowledge, forum theatre was the opportunity to have the Roma flag for the first time in premises of Faculty of Philosophy.

Project is part of the regional project ''Joint Initiative to Empower Roma Civil Society in the Western Balkans and Turkey'', which is implemented by NGO Young Roma and coordinated by Roma Active Albania. Project is financed by the European Union and co-financed by the Ministry of Public Administration.
