Joint recommendations for education of Roma children – conference „Quality education through cooperation“

Conference “Quality education through cooperation”, organized by NGO Young Roma and coalition “United support for Roma inclusion in Montenegro” was held in Podgorica on 27th September 2018. The aim of this conference was to gather representatives of education institutions, state institutions, international organizations and other relevant parties which deal with issues of education and general situation of Roma in Montenegro. Conference had focus on current state of education of Roma children, challenges and potential solutions at local level, positive examples from practice and exchange of information among participants.
Speakers in the introductory part of the conference were: Marash Dukaj, General director of Directorate for education of minority people and other national communities; Angela Longo, Head of Operations - Council of Europe; Snežana Mijušković, Deputy Ombudsman; Aleksandra Bojadjieva, Policy expert at Regional Council for Cooperation; Sokolj Beganaj, Independent advisor in the Department for protection and improvement of rights of Roma and Egyptians at the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights; Marijana Blečić from Roma Education Fund; Biljana Maslovarić, Vice-dean for science and international cooperation at the Faculty of Philosophy and Samir Jaha, Executive director of NGO Young Roma. Moderator of discussion was Milan Radović, Programme coordinator at Civic Alliance.
This was a working conference, as participants were divided into various working groups: preschool education, primary education, secondary education and high education. Each group discussed current challenges and potential solutions, and each group drafted recommendations for improvement of every level of education for Roma children. Recommendations were presented to other participants, united and sent to relevant stakeholders.
