Visit to the Parliament of Montenegro

Representatives of the NGO Young Roma together with group of activists from the Roma community visited Parliament of Montenegro on 05.04.2017. This activity was aimed at strengthening their skills, capacity building and greater participation in public and political life of our society.

On this occasion, the activists met with the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr. Ivan Brajović, as well as with the Vice-presidents of the Parliament and the Parliamentary parties representatives. The visit was organized with the intention to introduce these young successful high school and students activists, with all structures of society, and therefore the functioning of the Assembly of Montenegro. On this occasion, young activists from the Roma community with the President of the Parliament of Montenegro shared their ideas and vision of directions for further activism of young Roma in the Montenegrin society.

During the visit participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the work of Parliament, its responsibilities and functions, the history and activities of the working bodies and parties. Also, during the meeting of these young successful high schools and students activists had the opportunity to present themselves, to express their interests and their vision of the way in which young people can participate in decision-making processes. Since the activists are involved in the development of platforms for social and political activism of young Roma in Montenegro, they informed the attendees with the purpose of the Platform and expressed willingness for cooperation in the future.

We want to express gratitude toward the Parliament of Montenegro, which has responded positively to our request and thereby expressed its willingness to cooperate. In this spirit, the same day NGO Young Roma signed the Agreement on Cooperation with the Parliament of Montenegro.

Mentioned activity was organized within the project ,, Strengthening capacities of Roma for public activism -United we reach more ", which the NGO Young Roma implements in cooperation with the Union of Free Trade Unions of Montenegro and the Coalition Roma Circle. The project is being implemented since February 2016, and is financially supported by the European Union through the Delegation of European Union in Montenegro.
