Debate “Are Roma discriminated in Montenegro?” organized at the Faculty of Political Science in Podgorica

Debate “Are Roma discriminated in Montenegro?” took place at the Faculty of Political Science in Podgorica on 15th of November 2016. Event was organized as a part of project “Beat your prejudice”, that NGO Young Roma implements in cooperation with the debate club from the Faculty of Political Science “Agora”.

During the debate, government position was represented by students of Faculty of Law Ivan Vukčević and Bogdan Lukić, while opposition team consisted of Ana Puljiz from the Faculty of Political Science and Jovan Pavlovic from the Faculty of Economics. Debate moderator that led constructive discussion after the debate was Andrej Sepelj from „Agora“.

Students and professors from the University of Montenegro, Roma asctivists, representatves of NGOs, ministaries, international organizations and media, and our partners on projects, attended the debate. They have shown great interest in the topic and gave significant contribution in raising awareness on necessity of reduction of discrimination, racism and persistent negative cultural prejudices against Roma, especially in the field of education, employment and housing.

“Beat your prejudice” project is financed by the Embassy of the United States - Podgorica, through Democracy Commission Small Grants Program and it includes organization of Forum Theater plays in 3 high schools in Podgorica, Herceg Novi and Niksic, one street performance for the International Roma Day, and 3 parliamentarian debates at 3 higher education institutions.

Second debate in the series of three will be organized in the beginning od December and will take place at the Faculty of Economics, University of Montenegro.
