First meeting of the Working Group for Drafting Roma Integration Strategy

The first meeting of the Working Group for drafting the Strategy for improving the position of Roma and Egyptians in Montenegro 2016 - 2020 was held on Monday, 14 December in a small plenary hall in the old building of the Government.

The meeting was attended by members of the Working Group, i.e. representatives of the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Culture, Ombudsman Office, Capital City of Podgorica, Institute of Education, Office for Combating Human Trafficking and the NGOs Young Roma, Roma Council and the Center for Roma Initiatives.

New Strategy will be drafted with the expert help of d methodologist Milos Besic, who will do an initial survey, based on which previous strategy will be evaluated, and based on which, the working group will define recommendations for the creation of a new strategic document.

in addition to the 10 fields that were covered in previous documents, Strategy 2016 - 2020 will additionally focus on prevention of begging and anti-discrimination.

Executive Director of the NGO Young Roma, Samir Jaha, pointed to three key points in this process, namely: quality overview of the situation, evaluation and monitoring, as well as sources of financing strategies. One of the suggestions in this regard is that 20% of the total budget of the Commission for allocation of revenue from games of chance is to be redirected for the implementation of the Strategy.
