The European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) organized a conference in Belgrade on anti-discrimination litigation, inclusive education and the prohibition of segregation of Romani children in schools. The conference entitled "Classrooms Beyond Race - Inclusive Education for Romani children" was held on 5 - 6 October.

The event attracted a large number of representatives of NGOs and international organizations from the Western Balkans, Turkey, Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, Hungary and the Czech Republic which are dealing with education and the rights of the Roma.

Special attention at the conference was devoted to the increasingly common phenomenon of de facto segregation of Romani children in schools based on language barriers. The conference, in addition to the plenary sessions, also had few blocks of parallel sessions, which led to discussion on a number of problems faced by Roma children and their parents when it comes to the educational process, starting from discrimination in admission, treatment in schools, lack of quality education and dropout. One of the goals of the conference was also to assess and discuss the new Charter on Education of Roma in preparation by the European Roma Rights Centre.

Besides the representatives of the NGO Young Roma, Samir Jaha and Dženita Brčvak, the conference was also attended by representatives of other NGOs from Montenegro, namely, Civic Alliance, Forum MNE, ROM Phiren Amenca, Pedagogical Centre, CEDEM, Educational Training Centre, Roma Education Fund and the Education Institute of Montenegro.
