Krasnici

On Monday, September 8, NGO Young Roma visited the two most vulnerable families in the municipality of Herceg Novi, family of Mirita Krasnići and family of Nurija Beriša.

During the visit, we found that these two families live in a shared house in Kumbor in conditions unworthy of man (no bathrooms, kitchen or water in the house). Ms. Krasnići has 7 children, she is in the ninth month of pregnancy and is expecting twins. Ms. Beriša has 6 children. None of the families receive social assistance. An additional problem is that Ms. Krasnići has no health insurance, and the family does not have the funds to cover the costs of labor, given that none of the household members is employed.

NGO Young Roma managed to ensure the registration in Birth Registry Books and assignment of identification numbers for all 13 children through the project "Personal documentation - step by step to citizenship" with the support of UNDP. School-age children are included in the "Education to integration" project, aimed at providing support to quality education for Roma children in the municipality of Herceg Novi, within which children are provided a monthly bus tickets in order to increase the attendance of school and extra classes.

Also, our organization is in constant communication with representatives of UNHCR in Montenegro, with an aim to resolve the legal status of the parents of these children, as well. We expect to fully resolve this issue in the following 6 months.

Given the seriousness of the situation described, we addressed the Center for Social Work to invite them to provide these two families with the right to use material support for families and thus, provide them with minimum conditions for a decent life.

Young Roma NGOs will continue to follow the case of families Krasnići and Beriša from Kumbor.
