Support for Roma Recyclers

On August 1, 2021 the NGO Young Roma started the implementation of the project Support for Roma Recyclers, which was supported by the US Embassy in Montenegro through the Julia Taft program. The implementation of the project is planned for the next 9 months, ending on April 30, 2022.

The overall goal of this project is the improvement of the rights of collectors of secondary raw materials in Montenegro, improving employability, working opportunities and working conditions of collectors of secondary raw materials in Montenegro. During the implementation of this project, the following activities are planned:

- Organizing 13 focus groups with a group of collectors of secondary raw materials where we will talk about their work, the way they do it, the tools they use in their work, the material they collect, problems that they are facing in the work and the revenue earned;

- Developing an analyse and publication about the labour rights of collectors of secondary raw materials in Montenegro, problems and suggestions of ways to solve those problems;

- Award of work tools worth EUR 500 for 30 users who will be selected in a public call;

- Networking of collectors of secondary raw materials.

The project is planned in 13 Montenegrin municipalities: Podgorica, Bijelo Bolj, Berane, Niksic, Herceg Novi, Ulcinj, Bar, Budva, Kotor, Tivat, Cetinje, Rozaje, Pljevlja. Target group of the project will be composed of 50% of Roma community members who have the status of permanent or temporary residence in Montenegro (displaced Roma population) and 50% of domicile Roma population.
