One hundred aid packages for RE families from Niksic
On August 6, 2020, the NGO Young Roma, with the assistance of the Red Cross Niksic, organized the second action in a row to award aid packages for RE families from Niksic. Through this action, 3,200 kg of food and hygiene products were provided for 100 Niksic families from the Roma and Egyptian communities, i.e. 100 packages of food of 26 kg each as well as 100 packages of hygiene products of 6 kg each. For this action, EUR 2,300 without VAT was spent, and the funds were provided through the ROMACTED programme funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
Milanka Okuka, pedagogue and mentor at the Secondary Vocational School in Bar: Mentoring support is a form of correcting inequality
For pedagogue Milanka Okuka, a responsible and complex job of a mentor, whose abilities largely determine the further educational, but also the life path of Roma students, is a form of correcting inequality. Social, cultural, linguistic, and economic barriers are disappearing in her office at the Secondary Vocational School in Bar - differences are being erased. Knowing that conversation is perhaps the only link between people, the pedagogue from Bar connects all students in a creative way. She is wearing their shoes through sessions and workshops, providing them with motivation and advice on how to overcome any problem. With a warm word and a smile, she admits that nothing is unsolvable. That is why the fact that all ten enrolled Roma students finished high school arrived as a valuable reward. We talked with Milanka about the humanitarian vocation she performs, the challenges and prejudices she faces, and we scratched up some other important topics when it comes to the education of young children.
3200 kg of aid was delivered to 88 families in the municipality of Ulcinj
On July 30, 2020, the NGO Young Roma organized action of division aid packages intended for the Roma community in the municipality of Ulcinj. For this action, 100 food packages of 26 kilograms each were provided, as well as 100 hygiene packages of 6 kilograms per package. In this way, the NGO Young Roma helped 88 Roma families from this Montenegrin municipality. The value of this assistance is 2,300 Euros without VAT, and the funds are provided through the European Commission and the Council of Europe, through the ROMACTED programme.
