Workshop: Inclusive education without discrimination

Emrah-SA

International Workshop on Inclusive Education without Discrimination was organised on November 17-18, 2014 in Sarajevo. The workshop was organised by the Decade Trust Fund and several international and local partners as Kali Sara Roma Information Center, UNICEF, OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, while Caritas supported and co-financed the workshop.

The objective of the workshop was to (i) examine the problem of discrimination of Roma children in education;(ii) discuss the institutional mechanisms and structure for implementation and monitoring of the program for combating discrimination and inclusion of Roma children in education process; and (iii) share lessons and experiences of initiatives aimed at preventing and combating discrimination in education.

The main conclusion of the conference is that social integration through education is a long-term process, that active measures and incentives of state authorities must be improved so that all children have the same quality education. Recommendations emerging from this workshop are: to increase the number of children involved in education; to raise awareness of Roma parents about the importance of education; to encourage and develop awareness of the importance of pre-school development and education; to strengthen the capacity of Roma representatives, and to increase the stimulus measures of the state.

Emrah Jefkaj, Roma civil society representative participated in this thematic workshop through the NGO Young Roma, which is the Decade Focal Point in Montenegro.
